Mrs. Betty Nerhus, 90, of Lost Nation, Iowa, died Tuesday afternoon December 28, 2021, at Wheatland Manor.
Betty was born December 24, 1931, in Rock Island, Illinois, to the late Mason and Madeline (Hoffmann) Leonard. She married Delbert Steines February 5, 1949. The couple resided in Rock Island early in their marriage and later Calamus where they raised their family. Delbert preceded Betty in death March 25, 1976. She later married Don Nerhus May 6, 1978, and he preceded her in death January 12, 2005. In addition to being a homemaker, Betty worked along- side Delbert as an auto mechanic and also worked at Clinton Engine, Hoof Products and Caterpillar, Inc.
She enjoyed bingo, gambling, fishing, playing pool and golfing. Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Jerry Emmert of Calamus, Susan and Kabba Jalloh of Eldridge, Bonnie and Thomas Booth of Bullhead City, Arizona and Deb and Don Seifert of Wheatland; a daughter-in-law, Linda Steines of Toronto; grandchildren, Tonya, Chris, Matt, Kendra, Dana, Steve, Kim, Lorie, Tommy, Brandi, Ryan, Tiffany, Adam, Ken, Korey, Kelli and Kerri; 42 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom Leonard, Rob Leonard, Dave Leonard and Mike Leonard; sisters, Sandy Ulrich and Pat Hagloch; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Norma Nerhus of Grand Mound; many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding Betty in death were a son, Ron Steines; sons-in-law, Ken Beuthien and Tom Grau; a grandson, Jeremy Scheper; a great-granddaughter, Amber Jebson; a great-great-granddaughter, Novalee; brothers, Richard, Gerald, Bill and Jim and a sister, Linda VanLoon.
Visitation will be at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2022. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Steines, Rikki Daehler, Chris Beuthien, Matt Beuthien, Steve Fred and Adam Grau.
