Obituary

Beth Ann Weiskircher, 69, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2023, at The Summit of Bettendorf.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 18, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Services are at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, at the DeWitt United Methodist Church Pastor Jeff Bixby officiating.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in DeWitt.

Live Streaming will be hosted on the DeWitt United Methodist Church Facebook page.

Beth was born on July 1, 1954, in Amarillo, Texas, to Norris P. and Ruth B. (Anderson) Swanson.  She grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, graduating from Lincoln Northeast High School.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood development at Iowa State University in Ames, where she met Dave Weiskircher.  Beth graduated the morning of May 29, 1976, and married Dave later that same day.

Beth began teaching in the fall of 1976 and started the early learning program at Ekstrand Elementary.  She later taught kindergarten and jump start at Ekstrand, retiring in 2010 after 33 years.  Teaching is who she was, not what she did, and her mission to share a love of reading continued through her volunteer work with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and the Friends of the DeWitt Community Library.  Beth also was a board member of the DeWitt Referral Center and Thrift Store and a member of the DeWitt United Methodist Church.

Beth enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, tailgating with her Baker House friends, cheering for the Iowa State Cyclones and Chicago Cubs, and traveling with Dave .

Beth is survived by her husband, Dave; her children, Wendy (Chris) Young of Eldridge, Heidi (Nick) Shuraleff of Minneapolis, and D.J. (Danielle) Weiskircher of DeWitt; her grandchildren, Noah, Elliott, Ryker, Clyde, Annika, and Taylor; her brother, Joel Swanson; her sister, Jane (Dave) Armstrong; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law, Kristine Weiskircher, and her nephew, Brett Borer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library or the DeWitt United Methodist Church Little Libraries Reading Program.  The best way to honor Beth is to give a book to a child you love.

Arrangements are in care of Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.  Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com.
