Bernard “Bernie” Lindsey, 78, of Calamus, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Fieldstone of DeWitt, following brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Christian Free Lutheran Church in Wheatland, Iowa. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus. Bernard Dewey Lindsey Jr. was born January 9, 1947, to Bernard and Julia (Russell) Lindsey in Iowa City, Iowa. He spent his childhood in Jasper County and graduated from Newton High School in 1965. On June 23, 1967, Bernie married the love of his life, Bette Ann Engle. Together, they shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. Bernie earned a bachelor’s degree in education from William Penn University in Oskaloosa. In 1970, he and Bette moved to Eastern Iowa, where he began his career as a teacher and track coach at Calamus Community School, serving for nine years. In 1979, Bernie transitioned into the insurance field, joining Blunk Adamson Agency. He later became the owner and operator of Adamson Lindsey Insurance Agency, where he worked for over 40 years. Bernie took great pride in helping people and was known for his integrity and dedication to his clients. In addition to running his own agency, Bernie served as Secretary-Treasurer for American Mutual for eight years, where he managed operations, processed claims, and collected premiums. He was also a board member for 17 years and Assistant Secretary for 30 years. He had the heart of a teacher that extended to all areas of his life, mentoring and guiding those connected to him throughout his career, friendships, and faith community. God was a guiding presence throughout Bernard’s life, and he is surely filled with joy to be reunited in heaven with his beloved bride.

He is survived by his daughter Brittney (Andrew) Switala of Louisburg, NC; two grandchildren, Lindsey and Micah; a great-granddaughter, Lilly; his sister, Lynda (Dr. Gerald) Vanden Hoek; and 4 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
