Barb Barber, 69, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis, in DeWitt.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025, in the church, with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Grand Mound.
Barbara Marie Burke was born July 14, 1955, to Robert “Bob” and Frances (Green) Burke. Barb was a graduate of Central Community Schools in DeWitt. She married Robert Barber. Their union was blessed with 3 children.
Having learned cake making and decorating from her mother, Barb worked as a bakery manager and cake decorator at Barnes Foodland for 16 years. She continued making cakes and cookie-cakes for birthdays and weddings, until her health declined. She also worked at Car-Freshner and the Rock Island Arsenal.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, where she served on the Altar and Rosary and was a Religious Education Teacher. Barb was a people-person and enjoyed talking, she was always looking for a common connection with everyone with whom she crossed paths. She loved being in the sun, mowing and tending her flower garden and bird feeders.
Surviving are her children, Corinne (Justin) Rowe of Dallas Center, Curtis (Heidi) Barber of DeWitt, and Cathy (Jason) Kuehn of DeWitt; grandchildren, Charlie and Anna Rowe, Delaney, Kalli, and Cooper Barber, Caleb Kruse, and Carter Kuehn; her mother, Frances Burke of DeWitt; a sister, Shonale (Ron Perry) Burke of Schertz, Texas, and sister-in-law, Tami Rittmer Burke of Davenport; nieces and nephews.
Preceding Barb in death were her father, siblings, Richard Burke, Marilyn (Leroy) Burke-Knutsen, and Karen Burke, and a nephew, William Juuns.
