Barb Johnson

Barbara J. (Mrs. Jean) Johnson, 77, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her brother’s home in Mount Vernon, Washington.

Barb was born April 19, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio, to LeRoy and Evelyn “Chick” (Westbrook) Bennett. She graduated from Moline High School. Barb married Jean Johnson on September 19, 1969, at The First Christian Church in East Moline, Illinois. The couple resided in Moline where Barb continued her education, receiving her L.P.N. from Blackhawk College. Barb worked at Lutheran Hospital in Moline and Oak Glen Nursing Home in Coal Valley. The couple moved to the Delmar, Iowa, area in 1999, and Barb worked for Westwing Place in DeWitt. They moved to DeWitt in 2014, becoming part of the Claddagh Tower community. Jean preceded her in death on August 30, 2021.

Barb liked quilting, cross stitching, and handicrafts. She had enjoyed league bowling for many years. Barb was a St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and enjoyed attending games. She loved visiting the Clydesdale horses at Grant’s Farm while in St. Louis. Barb enjoyed baking cookies and making fudge during the holidays for neighbors and family. She also enjoyed traveling with Jean.

She is survived by a sister, Ellen Parris of Johnston, Iowa, and brother, Harold Bennett of Mt. Vernon, Washington; nephews, Nathan (Stephannie) Parris, and Luke (Sara) Parris; 4 great-nephews and 1 great-niece; and godchildren, Julie Bennett-Badertscher, James Bennett, and Jodi Koller.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Susan Bennett.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service time of 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Burial following at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
