Alice Marie Carber

Alice M. Carber, 96, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Genesis Medical Center in DeWitt, following a brief illness.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2023, in the funeral home. Burial following at Elmwood Cemetery in DeWitt.

Alice Marie Seastrand was born August 5, 1927, in DeWitt, Iowa, to Maurice and Leola (Barber) Seastrand. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1947. Alice married Robert Carber on July 20, 1947, at the First Congregational Church in DeWitt. He preceded her in death in 1987. Alice worked as a waitress at the Tower Cafe, and was one of the first elementary level teacher’s aides in the school district, a position which she held for 23 years. She then served as a substitute teacher’s aide for 16 more years, retiring in 2012.

Alice was a member of the United Church of Christ, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Moose Lodge, and Retired School Personnel, all in DeWitt. She enjoyed playing cards and Bingo, working at the church, helping with the Noon Lions, teaching Sunday School and Bible School. Alice will be lovingly remembered for the hundreds of cakes she baked and shared with so many people over the decades.

She is survived by her sons, Gene (Gail) Carber of Davenport, and Terry Carber of Fairbury, Illinois; grandchildren, Melissa (Rick) DeLuga, Michelle (Ross) Hummel, Tecia (Nathan) Mills, Samantha (Michael) Palen, and Mitchel Carber; great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Noah, Ashley, Soren, Emerson, Taylor, Chandler, Benjamin, Rory, and Cooper; a sister, Lolly Lindstrom; many nieces and nephews; a former sister-in-law, Darlene

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Tess Madilynne, sisters, Jeanne (Bill) Grimm, Lorraine (Gene) Gilbreath, Ruthie (Elmer) Scheper, brothers, Ed (Pat), Victor (Millie), Albert (Mary Ann), Robert (Chuck), John (Dorris), Charles (Bev), and Bus, her daughter-in-law, Diann, and many nieces and nephews.
