Alex Matthiesen Obituary

Alex Matthiesen, 54 of DeWitt, Iowa, died late Tuesday evening, June 9, 2020 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Alexander Phillip Matthiesen was born June 7, 1966, to Max and Kathy (Hoffmann) Matthiesen.  He was a 1984 graduate of Central Community Schools, DeWitt and attended Scott Community College.  Alex was a butcher for most of his life, working with his parents, Charlotte Locker and most recently his uncle and aunt at Matthiesens Deer & Custom Processing. 

He enjoyed fishing and gardening.  Alex loved his family and friends dearly and his occupation as a butcher.  He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his smile and ability to make people laugh. 

Surviving are his children, Ashley Jess and her husband, Curt of Preston and Braxton Matthiesen of Milton, Wisconsin; his grandchildren,  Alexis Jess, Elijah Hoppe and Ainsly Jess; his sister and brother-in-law, Tina and Joe Hardin of Wasilla, Alaska; his aunt and uncle, Chuck and Sandy Matthiesen of DeWitt; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

At his request, there will be no visitation or service.  A Celebration of Life will be held next year.  Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.  Memorials may be sent to Schultz Funeral Home  722 8th Street  DeWitt, Iowa  52742.
