Alan Kaster, 76, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Friday, March 3, 2023, in Davenport, following a prolonged battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the American Legion in DeWitt.
Alan Burdette Kaster was born January 3, 1947, to Leo Burdette and DeLila Anna (Green) Kaster, Anamosa, Iowa. After graduating from high school in Lowden, Iowa, he completed training at a trade school in Chicago, specializing in sheet metal and body repair. Alan served in the U.S. Army, spending one year in Vietnam doing vehicle maintenance direct support. He married Peggy Newmarch on November 5, 1967, at Low Moor Methodist Church. They resided in Lawton, Oklahoma for the duration of his service. Upon his discharge, the couple settled in the DeWitt area, where they raised their two children, Tracey and Dale. Alan worked in various maintenance and repair positions, retiring from Collis Co. after 25 years.
Alan enjoyed camping, riding his motorcycle, working with his hands, welding, and working in the yard. His kind nature and sense of humor were well loved by all who knew him. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 55 years, Peggy; his son, Dale (Sue) Kaster of rural DeWitt; son-in-law, Chris Brown of DeWitt; grandchildren, Shauntel (Ben) Wagner, Blake (Jenni) Roman, Josh Roman, Nathan Kaster, and Emma Brown; great-grandchildren, Ayden, Lorelai, and Korben; a sister, Carol Krumroy; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Tracey Brown.
