William "Bill" Duke

William James “Bill” Duke, 61, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Wednesday July 24, 2019, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, following a brief illness.

Bill was born on Valentine’s Day 1958 to James and Lois Duke of Grand Mound.  Born with Downs Syndrome, Bill loved everyone and everyone that knew him loved him.  He grew up on the farm near Grand Mound and attended Welton and Skyline schools.  Bill worked for DAC in Maquoketa and later Skyline in Clinton.  He had lived in Community Care in Charlotte and later group homes in DeWitt for more than 20 years and made many lasting friends.

Bill loved family and family get-togethers, spending time with friends, Pepsi, quarters, music, dancing, the Dukes of Hazard, Batman, and pizza.

Survivors include his sisters, Delores (Sherwood) Lahann of Wheatland, and Mary Jane (Harry) Slaymaker of Grand Mound; an aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda Glover.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019, at DeWitt Evangelical Free Church. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
