William "Bill" Andrew Erbst, Sr.

William A. “Bill” Erbst, 71, of Calamus, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at UnityPoint Health, Trinity Terrace in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Bill was born May 12, 1946, to Fred and Alice (Martin) Erbst in Davenport, Iowa. He attended schools in Davenport and later was an over-the-road semi driver and laborer. Bill married Phyllis Aynes on September 22, 1973. The couple raised their family near Donahue and resided in Calamus for the last 30 years.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, trapping, reading westerns, and online games.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Tammy (Jerry) Bowdre-Bennett of Davenport, Randy Bowdre of Bastrop, Texas, Charlotte (Bill) Gallentine of Dayton, Iowa, Alice Goff of Calamus, and Bill (Kia) Erbst III, of Davenport; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gilbert (Nancy) Erbst; a sister, Elaine (David) Robbins; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred, mother, Alice, and step-mother, Hazel; sisters, Freda Erbst, Leota Erbst, and Rita Bates.

Visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Christian Free Lutheran Church in Wheatland, Iowa. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Buffalo, Iowa, at a later date.
