September 27, 1930 ~ December 22, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years OldMrs. Mary Lou Youmans, 87, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Friday afternoon, December 22, 2017, at Wheatland Manor.
The former Mary Lou Phillips was born September 27, 1930, in Macksburg to the late Leslie and Lois (Herren) Phillips. She graduated from Macksburg High School. On May 12, 1948, Mary Lou married Billy Youmans in Lawrence, Kansas. They resided in DeWitt for most of their married life. Mary Lou was a homemaker raising not only her six children but caring for the children of others. Her husband preceded her in death on July 16, 1996.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of DeWitt. Mary Lou was a talented artist and quilter, creating many paintings of Iowa country landscapes through the use of acrylic paints. She was an avid gardener and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are children, Barbara (Richard) Wright of Fulton, Illinois, Susan (Robert) Miller of DeWitt, Lorie (Terry) Rathje of Long Grove, Steve (Connie) Youmans of DeWitt, Cindy (Dan) Millett of Waterloo and Mark (Lora) Youmans of Delmar; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; siblings, Tom (Laurel) Phillips and Dorothy Jensen of Rogers, Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Kathy Phillips of Van Meter and Rita Phillips of Toledo, Ohio; nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mary Lou in death in addition to her parents and husband were brothers, Dean and Bob Phillips and two great-granddaughters.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Tom Boomershine officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
Pallbearers will be Dan Wright, Mike Wirth, Levi Rathje, Matt Youmans, Jason Millett and Ben Youmans. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Wright, David Wright, Adam Wirth, Sarah Graham, Abbie Reemtsen, Emily Krambeck, Julia Youmans, Hannah Millett, Jessica Brink and Ben Youmans.
