I was always so impressed with your Mom's sweet personality and contagious smile!! What a trooper she was and still writing informative articles long after everyone else had retired! Now I know where you get your energy and spunk from Sue!! We will be sending a memorial as we cannot be there as we need to attend the burial of our Greatgrandson, Kyler Lavery on Sat. at 10:00am in Rock Island.

What a beautiful obituary honoring your mother. Although I did not know her, this obituary shows what a wonderful Mom you had. God bless you and your family as you honor your Mom and mourn your great loss.

To Mary Louis family - I was an intern at The Observer in 1989. She gave me many lessons and tips for covering courts and government, which was a great help to me early in my career. She was incredibly determined and always wanted to learn. I hope good memories bring you comfort.

Sue, Peter, Hans and Mickey,
So very sorry to read of Mary Lou's passing. You were so fortunate to have her for 90 years. She was truly a life-long learner and was accomplished in so many ways, notably raising four children, all accomplished in their own right. Her by-lines were a magnet for many readers. So cool that music and writing were such a passion for her.
Blessings to our Elvira neighbors.

Very sorry to hear of Mary Lou's passing. Our sincere condolences to all you neighbor kids. Keep your Mom's memories close in your heart, she was a very remarkable woman. I have some unique memories of the silo farm accident when we were all kids. Peace to you all!

My deepest sympathy to Mary Lou's entire family. I had the pleasure of working in and for the County Board of Supervisor's boardroom when Mary Lou was deemed "Watchdog" for that board. She even had an office with signage on the wall stating such. What a gal!!! Our country needs more like her - determined, strong-willed, but as gracious as her personality allowed. Rest in peace dear one, you won the race! Peace

Thank you for your kind words. Her frustration over not being able to "work" and "write that story that needs to be told" is over. The University of Iowa Women's Achieve in Iowa City will be the recipient of her writings and awards after the Memorial Service in April.
