Margaret Wuestenberg, 96, of rural Donahue, Iowa, went to her heavenly home early Thursday morning, March 29, 2018, at Wheatland Manor, in Wheatland, Iowa.
Mrs. Wuestenberg, the former Margaret Ruth Lahann, was born November 22, 1921, in rural Clinton County, Iowa, the oldest child of Otto and Marian (Vetter) Lahann. She married Irvin “Pete” Wuestenberg on October 29, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1985. Her children are Jerry (Teri), Dixon; and Mary Lou Engler, Eldridge. She has two grandchildren DJ (Janet) Strader, Milan, Illinois; and Amy (Randy) Nelson, Donahue; and great-grandchildren, Jakob and Courtney Nelson.
Margaret was baptized and confirmed at the country church of Immanuel Lutheran in Buena Vista. She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Davenport and a current member of Park View Lutheran Church. She began her teaching career at age 18 in the one-room Virginia School in rural Clinton County with her teaching certificate. While teaching and raising a family Mrs. Wuestenberg graduated from St. Ambrose University in 1974 with her Bachelors in Education Degree. Mrs. Wuestenberg was employed by North Scott Schools for 35 years, many of them as the Kindergarten teacher at John Glenn Elementary in Donahue, retiring in 1986 and having taught an estimated 1,200 children in her own guess. She belonged to the Davenport Association of Retired Teachers, and enjoyed playing cards in many local card clubs in both Scott and Clinton Counties, and loved hosting many family gatherings.
In addition to her husband, Pete, she was preceded in death by brothers Cliff and Kenny Lahann.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Brother Sherwood (Delores) Lahann, Wheatland; and sister-in-law Arlene (Cliff) Lahann of Clinton; many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:15 a. m. Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Park View Lutheran Church. A Service of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the church with Pastor Pete Hoft officiating. Burial will be at Allen’s Grove Cemetery, rural Donahue, Iowa.
