Marcella Ann (Ruge) Waack

Marcella (Mrs. Joe) Waack, 90, of Eldridge, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully, Monday, October 8, 2018, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.

Mrs. Waack was born Marcella Ann Ruge on January 11, 1928, in Davenport, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Elvira. Marcella worked as a clerk, bookkeeper at Barnes Foodland in DeWitt, and later owned and operated Buttons & Bows children’s boutique in DeWitt. She married Joseph Waack on April 23, 1949, at St. Ann’s in Grand Mound. Joe preceded her in death on August 31, 2009.

Marcella was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt, the DeWitt Jr. Women’s Ci-Ed Club, and DeWitt Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler and also enjoyed playing Bingo and cards. Marcella loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite time was the holidays, when she would host as many as she could. Her family and friends will miss her wonderful cooking.

Marcella is survived by her son, Rick (Annette) of Grand Mound; grandchildren, Jamie (Carri) Waack, Keith Miller, Cory (Becky) Waack, Rusty (Kari) Miller, Nicole (Jeff) Bice; 13 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers-in-law.

Visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, with a Vigil Service at 9:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
