Kenneth W. Beer, 78, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Saturday evening, June 10, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton.

Kenneth Wayne Beer was born August 29, 1938, in Wilton Junction, Iowa, to Robert and Rhea (Moeller) Beer.  He was a 1956 graduate of Concordia High School in St. Paul, Minnesota, and attended Concordia College in St. Paul.  On September 13, 1959, Ken was united in marriage to Frances Gluesing at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte.  The couple resided in DeWitt during their married life where they raised their family.  Ken owned and operated the DX tank wagon and service station in DeWitt and drove school bus for Central Community Schools for many years.  In 1993 he began over the road trucking for ADM and did so until retirement.

Ken was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound.  He was a member of the DeWitt Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years.  Ken enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking and gardening.  Family time was very important to Ken and he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Frances;  children and their spouses, Sheryl and Dan Zinda of DeWitt, Pam and Barry Williams of Madison, Nebraska and Rob and Connie Beer of DeWitt; grandchildren, Stephanie Makela, Brian Zinda, Alaina (Zachary) Booth, Leah Williams, Nicholas Williams, Joshua Beer, Katie (Jim) McIntire and Caleb (Katie) Beer; great-grandchildren, Noah and Austin Makela, Alexandria Booth and Ava Grace McIntire; brothers-in-law, Harlan (Ellen) Gluesing, and Wayne (Becky) Gluesing.

Preceding Ken in death were his parents and a sister, Joyce Bloemker.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017.  A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, in the church with the Rev. Steven Anderson officiating.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.  Memorials may be made to Mission Central c/o Arthur Rickman Family or Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Pallbearers will be Joshua and Caleb Beer, Brian Zinda, Nicholas Williams, Zachary Booth and Jim McIntire.  Honorary pallbearers will be Allan Anderson, LeRoy Wulf and Leo Fier.
