John Riedesel, 85, of DeWitt, Iowa, died peacefully Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at WellSpire Westwing Place, DeWitt.
John Charles Riedesel was born August 27, 1934, to Wilbert and Berniece (Bender) Riedesel. He attended school in Grand Mound and graduated from Grand Mound High School in 1952. John married his high school sweetheart, Jane Grell July 2, 1954, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Davenport. The couple resided at Grand Mound where they raised their family. Farming was John's passion. He also spent many years working at Mississippi Engineering in Grand Mound and later Kartridge Pak in Davenport.
John was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. He enjoyed 65 years with his wife Jane. They loved to attend dances in their younger years and later in their life, wintering in Florida. He was also an avid Hawkeye fan. John spent every waking moment outside on his farm as there was always something to tend to.
Surviving are his children, Janelle (Wayne) Goldensoph of Davenport, John Riedesel, Jr. of DeWitt, Julie (Kerry) Ayer of Wheatland, Juanita (Steve) Witt of Charlotte, Jolene (Robert) Schaefer of Goose Lake, Joel (Jean) Riedesel of Spencer, Jennifer (Richard) McDermott of Channahon, Illinois, Janice (Michael) Murphy of Long Grove, Jessica (Shawn) Mask of Bettendorf, Jason (Jayne) Riedesel of Grand Mound and Jill Riedesel of Davenport; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Will Ried, Camanche, Barbara (Jerry) Griep, DeWitt; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding John in death were his wife, Jane, and two sisters, Aletha and Marilyn.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2019, at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Mound.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
