Joel Eugene Hinck

Mr. Joel E. Hinck, 86, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Saturday afternoon, October 21, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.

Joel Eugene Hinck was born in Marshalltown on October 10th, 1931, to the Rev. Theodore and Theodora (Berger) Hinck.  He was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in 1945 by his father.  Joel graduated from DeWitt Public Schools in 1949.  On June 15th, 1952, he was united in marriage to Maxine Stolte.  Joel was employed at Hap Smith Shell Station, Farm Service, Wieck Motors, was a school bus driver and retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier following 24 ½ years.  In retirement, Joel drove cars for local automobile dealers and worked for the City of DeWitt Park & Recreation Department.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound.  His faith and love in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was of utmost importance to Joel and his family.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers and Central Sabers fan.  Joel dearly loved spending time with his family, especially trips to Wisconsin and St. Louis.  Some highlights during his life included showing cattle with his brother, Paul, trips to visit his sisters, Ruth, Cordy and Vicki and visits with his brother, John.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Maxine; daughters, Michelle (Joel) Frost and Jolene (Dale) Anderson of DeWitt; grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Lange, Jill Anderson, Jared Anderson, Julie (Gabe) Franker, Jena Anderson, Bryce Frost and Justina Frost; great-grandchildren, Mason and Reagan Lange and Katie and Lincoln Franker; a sister, Vicki (Allen) Nauss; brother, John (Trudy) Hinck; step-sisters, Jeanne (Lauren) Hansen and Karalee (Harold) Elzroth; sisters-in-law, Elgeva Stolte and Joan Hinck.

Preceding Joel in death were his parents; step-mother, Paula; sisters, Ruth (Bob) Stoll and Cordy (Mel) Deter; a brother, Paul and a brother-in-law, Warren Stolte.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017.  A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound with the Rev. Steven L. Anderson officiating.  Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.  Memorials may be made to Bethesda Lutheran Home, Watertown, Wisconsin, or Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound.

Pallbearers will be Chris and Amy Lange, Jill Anderson, Jared Anderson, Audrey Berendes, Gabe and Julie Franker, Jena Anderson and Brandon Overman.  Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Anderson, Dick Capper, Gary Eden, Harlan Fischer and Curt Daniels.
