Mrs. Jessie Irene Garlough, 71, formerly of Wheatland, Iowa, died Sunday evening, September 16, 2018, at Christian Northeast Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri.
Jessie was born January 8, 1947, to Jesse and Bessie Statler in Effingham, Illinois. She was married to John Speers, with whom she had five children. They later divorced. She married Jim Garlough on February 10, 1979, who had 3 children and together they had one more. Jessie raised a total of 9 children and also worked as a waitress for many years. Jim preceded her in death in 2014.
Jessie was very strong and outgoing. She was a member of numerous bowling leagues over many years. She loved animals.
She is survived by her children, Tammy Hartsock of Columbus Junction, Jessica Speers of St. Louis, Missouri, John Speers of Hannibal, Missouri, Shawn Garlough of Clinton, Carrie Chaplin of Durant, Charles Speers of Hannibal, Missouri, William Garlough of Swedona, Illinois, Ronney Speers of Cedar Rapids, and Melissa Garlough of Swedona, Illinois; 28 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; 2 sisters, Shelby and Emma; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Jim, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Becky.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, Iowa, from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Eric Swenson officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
