Jack Scott

Jack Scott, 82, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, December 20, 2017, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Jackie Lee Scott was born October 28, 1935, in Elwood to the late John and Martha (Schmidt) Scott.  He was a 1953 graduate of Elwood High School.  Jack graduated in 1960 from the University of Iowa with a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy.   On June 23, 1962, he married Verda Thomsen in Olin at St. John Lutheran Church.  Jack was a pharmacist briefly at the former Smith Drug in Davenport.   In July of 1962, the couple purchased the former Thorpe Drug in DeWitt and continued to operate it as Scott Drug for 34 years until retirement in 1996.  

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt and its finance council.   Jack was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Tower Stamp Company, Jaycees and the Iowa Pharmacy Association being nominated as Honorary President for a year.  He was a member of Springbrook Country Club for many years and former president.  Jack's hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting, dancing and traveling.  He was a lifelong avid Hawkeye fan.  Jack greatly enjoyed spending time with family and many friends.

Surviving are his wife, Verda; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kathy Scott of DeWitt and Jeff and Jodi Scott of Lone Tree, Colorado; grandchildren, Mitchell Scott, Matthew Scott, Ben Scott, Maddie Scott, Garrett Finley and Alexa Finley; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Darlene Scott.

The family will receive  friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017.  A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt with the Rev. Merle Warnshulz officiating.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
