Henry Henningsen, 94, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Park Vista Retirement Living in Camanche.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Schultz Funeral Home in DeWitt from 10:00 a.m., until the service time of 12:00 p.m., late luncheon following at The Old Library in DeWitt at 2:00 p.m. Private burial will be at the Elvira Cemetery. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are the grandchildren and grandnephews. Memorials may be given to the Low Moor Lions Club.
Henry was born on July 3, 1925, in Altmühl, Germany to Jürgen and Anna (Nass) Henningsen. He married Katie Petersen from Tolk, Germany on May 24, 1952, in Haddeby, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. They were blessed with three wonderful children, Iris, Birger, and Harlo.
The couple immigrated to America in March 1953. They farmed in the Clinton area from 1956 until 1990. Henry was also employed with Clinton Corn and ADM for 25 years. He was a member of the Low Moor Lions Club and American Schleswig-Holstein Heritage Society. He liked to walk and cleanup his local county roads, playing cards with friends and traveling with Katie, including several visits to their old Homeland.
He was preceded in death by his wife Katie, daughter Iris, son Harlo, and four brothers.
Surviving are his son, Birger (Janae); six grandchildren, Jens (Lexie), Keinah (Matthew) Tindol, Brenon, Jamie (Kyle) Shipman, Harris (Morgan), and Evanny; great-grandchildren, Anika, Claire, Kora, Iris, and Scarlett; niece, Marita (David) Oliver; great-nephews, Lance (Heather), Piercen (Kelli), Spencer (Lauren), and their children Luther, Sinclair, Katherine; remaining family in Germany and his beloved dog Lucy.
