Gene Carber, 74, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Genesis Medical Center in DeWitt.
Donald Eugene “Gene” Carber was born January 15, 1945, to Joseph and Letha (Webb) Carber, in Clinton, Iowa. After graduating from DeWitt High School, he received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Iowa. He worked as a carpenter for many years, served as deputy sheriff in Clinton County, and ran for several state and local offices. He retired from Plasti Paint in DeWitt.
Gene was a lifelong supporter of the Democratic party and was especially a fan of John F. Kennedy. He was a Hawkeye fanatic, and enjoyed watching all their sports. Gene also enjoyed watching Jeopardy and betting an “official quarter” on the Final Jeopardy.
He is survived by his children, David (Tonya) Carber, Clinton, Rebecca (George) Ballard, Windsor, Colorado, Chris (Deb) Carber, Mesa, Colorado; grandchildren, Kyla and Kennedy, Tyler, Bryan, J.P., and Jacob, Christopher, Joe, Seth, and their mother, Leslie; a brother, Bob; nieces and nephews; and his children’s mother, Madonna Frisch.
Memorial Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2019, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 in the funeral home with Gene’s nephew, Joel Dieckmann officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus.
