Mrs. Edith P. Gleason, 96, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Thursday afternoon, June 1, 2017, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Mrs. Gleason, the former Edith Pearl Chandler was born July 4, 1920, to the late Alfred and Edith (Spence) Chandler.  Edith graduated from DeWitt High School in 1938.  On March 15, 1942, she was united in marriage to Robert Gleason in Dubuque.  The couple resided in Dubuque for a few years, prior to moving to DeWitt where they raised their family and owned and operated Gleason's Furniture and Upholstery.  Edith also worked at Iowa Mutual Insurance Company in DeWitt for 17 years until retirement.  Her husband preceded her in death December 4, 1979.  Edith continued to reside in DeWitt until moving to Grand Haven Retirement Community, Eldridge in May of 2016.

She was lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, DeWitt.  Edith enjoyed needlework, was an avid Hawkeye fan and loved her family dearly.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Shirley Gleason of DeWitt and Gary and LaVonne Gleason of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Dan (Stacey) Gleason, Debbie (Monte) Moorehead and Mark Gleason; great-grandchildren, Chelsey (Kurt) Paslawski, Ethan Kramer, Richie Stotlar, Annie Stotlar, Trent Moorehead and Allie Moorehead; great-great-grandsons, Kolton and Kane Paslawski; a sister, Rose Galitz; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Edith was preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Bowstead, Grace Farber and Mary Anderson; her twin sister, Alice Stotesbery and a brother, John Chandler.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017.  A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the church with Pastor Tom Boomershine officiating.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.  Memorials are suggested to Make A Wish Foundation of Iowa.

Pallbearers will be Jim Stotesbery, Hal Shelton, Don Vickory, Kent Marcek, Gary Alden and Alan Anderson.
