Mrs. Doris Lucille Pruhs Griebel, 94, of DeWitt, Iowa, went to be with Lord Sunday morning, October 29, 2017, at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home in Wheatland, Iowa.

Born October 31, 1922, to Fred and Ella (Roseland) Pruhs, Doris was a graduate of Calamus High School.  Doris married Darrell Dean Griebel on May 17, 1941, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation.  The couple lived and farmed near the rural Iowa communities of Toronto, Moscow and Bennett.  Her husband preceded her in death on October 23, 1996. 

Doris was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt and Grace Lutheran Women of which she served as President.  She also served on the Altar Guild and loved helping with the Grace’s midweek program and baking cookies for Grace Camp activities.  Her faith, family and friends were of utmost importance to her.  She enjoyed taking care of her family and friends by cooking and baking for them. Doris also would garden, sew and quilt for her children, grandchildren and adopted grandchildren.  She was known for making her famous Norwegian Kringles, a recipe handed down from her own mother and grandmother. 

Surviving are children, Nola Esmoil of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Darry (Della) Griebel of Fort Myers, Florida, Jim (Kathy) Griebel of Bluffton, South Carolina, David (Linda) Griebel of Tucson, Arizona and LaRita (John) Kuykendall of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, LaVonne (Eric) Bluhm, Angela Esmoil, Beth (Steve) Tarnish, Dean (Teresa) Griebel, Wes (Denise) Griebel, Jill (Tomas) Santandreu, Dan (Beth) Griebel, Carrie (Shawn) Harris, Emily (Mike) Peklo, Garnet (Ken) Booth, Grant Griebel, James (Caroline) Kuykendall, Audra (Aaron) Rosenbury and John (April) Kuykendall.  Doris had 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mildred Snyder and Marie Will.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, 722 8th Street, DeWitt from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2017.  A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017, in the funeral home.   Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Wheatland. 

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Dean Griebel, Wes Griebel, Dan Griebel, James Kuykendall, Grant Griebel and John Kuykendall, Jr.  

The family extends their special thanks to Wheatland Manor, Magie’s House and Dr. Steven Fowler for the wonderful care provided to Doris over the years.
