Donald LuVerne Ahlers

Donald LuVerne Ahlers, 94, of Calamus, Iowa, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland.

Don was born July 24, 1923, to Albert and Lottie (Oldsen) Ahlers on the family farm north of Calamus. He served in the Army during WWII. He married Lois Heuer on February 14, 1946, in Davenport. He retired as a machine operator from Caterpillar in 1985.

Don attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Calamus. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching, and working in his garage workshop. He loved children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lois; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Phil Potter of Coralville; grandchildren, Michael (Cassie) Potter of North Liberty, and Melissa (Michael) Pfohl of McFarland, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Sophie and Jake Potter, and Lorelei and Holly Pfohl; sisters, Phyllis Eaton of Grand Mound, Shirley (George) Burmeister of Davenport and sister-in-law, Ella Ahlers of Bettendorf; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Lori Lynn; a brother, Lowell, and brother-in-law, Richard Eaton.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Schulz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Calamus, with Pastor Denise Anderberg officiating. Burial and military rites will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus.
