Bill Oetzmann Obituary

Bill Allyn Oetzmann, 66, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018.

He was born September 2, 1952, in Davenport to Lloyd and Valiera (Friederichs) Oetzmann.  Bill was a graduate of North Scott High School.  He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.  Bill married Connie Sherman August 10, 1974, in Eldridge and later married Julie Benadom June 15, 1988, at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt.  The couple resided in DeWitt and Bill was employed by H & W Motor Express Company as a truck driver for 28 years.  He also worked on the family farm at rural Donahue.

After his retirement, Bill enjoyed  reading, golfing, farming and tinkering with John Deere tractors.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He  will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Julie; his daughters and sons-in-law, Alissa and Terry Haase of Eldridge and Amber and Jeff Hartford of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Ava and Grant Haase; his siblings, Ron (Donna) Oetzmann of Long Grove, Larry (Jane) Oetzmann of Donahue, Dennis (Patricia) Oetzmann of Dixon, Gene (Mary) Oetzmann of Eldridge and Bonnie (Richard) Shumaker of Tipton; nieces and nephews.

Preceding Bill in death were his parents.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 10:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018.  A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Denise Anderberg officiating.  Military rites will be conducted following the service by Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238 of DeWitt and the Iowa Army National Guard.  Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt at a later date.
