Suzanne Gannon Obituary

Suzanne “Susie” Margaret (Klauer) Gannon, 87, formerly of Welton, Iowa, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 19, 2024.  She was residing at Parc Provence in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

Susie was born on August 6, 1936 in Davenport, Iowa to Frank and Margaret Klauer. She graduated high school from Immaculate Conception Academy, Davenport, and went to work for the family business, Klauer’s Cafe in DeWitt, Iowa, where she first met a young Richard “Dick” Joseph Gannon. They married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt on February 14, 1957.

The couple resided near Welton on the Gannon family farm, where Dick was born. They raised their five children there, where Susie was a busy housewife, cooking meals for both the family and the farmers in the field. She was an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Anne Catholic Church, the Welton Fire Department Women’s Club, and a 4-H club volunteer.

In 2000, Dick and Susie moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  She treasured watching her grandchildren in their school and sports activities, as she had with her own children.  Susie was a poll worker for many elections, volunteered as a patient ambassador at St. Luke’s Hospital Cedar Rapids and enjoyed spending time on counted cross stitch projects, playing Sequence with the grandkids, and solving Sudoku puzzles.

Susie is survived by her children, Julie (Michael) Kashuba of Fair Oaks, California, Barbara (Michael) Coffey of Camdenton, Missouri, Stephen (Christine Grewe) Gannon of Wildwood, Missouri, Margaret (Mark) McCulloh of Cedar Rapids and Jeffrey (Kris) Gannon of Valley Park, Missouri; grandchildren, Margaret and Anna Rose Kashuba, Matthew, Brian and Maggie Eiben, Joslyn and Garrett Gannon, Courtney (Dillon) Elkin, and Austin McCulloh, Weston and Piper Gannon; and great-grandchildren Trevor and Brayden Eiben.

She is also survived by her brother, Bob (Carol) Klauer of Flower Mound, Texas, brother-in-law Tom (Judy) Gannon, sister-in-law Madonna Gannon and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, her parents, and in-laws Jim Gannon, Mary and Leonard Massey, John and Jeanne Gannon, and Rita and Ray Enters.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in the church.
