Ronald Besst Obituary

Ron Besst, 80, of DeWitt, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Monday, April 1, 2024, at Senior Star in Davenport.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the DeWitt United Methodist Church, with a Funeral Service Following at 12:00 noon in the church. Private burial following at Elmwood Cemetery. Hawkeye attire is welcomed.

Memorials may be made to Milestones Area Agency on Aging or a pet shelter of choice.

Ronald D Besst was born July 29, 1943, to Walter and Millie (Maxfield) Besst in Vernal, Utah. On August 3, 1963, he was united in marriage to Shirley Samuel in at First Christian Church in Brighton, Colorado. The couple moved to DeWitt in 1968. Ron worked for REC in DeWitt for over 45 years. Shirley preceded him in death 2011, after 49 years of loving marriage.

Ron was a very active member of the DeWitt United Methodist Church, the Noon Lions, and the Boy Scouts. He and Shirley loved traveling with their camper, square dancing, playing board and dice games, neighborhood gatherings, and holding many years of Mallard’s season tickets. He also enjoyed a lifetime of loving his pets.

Surviving are his children, Kelli Meyer and her husband, Nikolaus, of Davenport, Scott Besst and his wife, Amy, of DeWitt; a granddaughter, Ellie (Shane Gibson) Besst; a great-grandson, Oliver Gibson; a brother, Ray Besst and his wife, Donna, of Bullhead City, Arizona.

In addition to his beloved wife Shirley, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lee and Donald, his in-laws, Eugene and Irene Samuel, and his loving companion, Dexter.
