Grace Kinney Obituary

Grace Marie Kinney, 98, of Grand Mound, Iowa, was welcomed home to Heaven, on Monday, April 22, 2024. 

Mrs. Kinney was born February 15, 1926, in Grand Mound, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Susanna Green. Grace was united in marriage to Clarence George Kinney on May 6, 1944, in Grand Mound, Iowa.  He preceded her death in 2005. The couple farmed in the Calamus and Grand Mound areas for over 50 years. Early in her life Grace was a homemaker, farm wife, and then worked as a home health aide for the Clinton County nurses.  Grace was a member of SS Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society, the St. Patrick Society of the Quad Cities, the Friday Study Club, and a 4-H Mom.  She was the 2015 Irish Mother of the Year.  

Many will remember Grace for her delicious caramel rolls, her warm and generous spirit, and her devotion to the Catholic Faith. Throughout her life, Grace planted the seeds of gratitude in every child she held on her lap. Her home and her heart were open to everyone.

Surviving are her 15 children, four sons, Thomas of DeWitt, Roger (Mary) of Grand Mound, David (Laddawan) of Davenport, and Brian (Cheryl) of DeWitt, eleven daughters, Rita (Larry) Linnenbrink of Donahue, Monica Anderson of Grand Mound, Clarice (John) Sundeen of Moline, Illinois, Teresa (Carlie) Grimm of DeWitt, Mary Sundeen of Grand Mound, Jolene (Michael) Whittemore of Davenport, Annette Holst of DeWitt, Joyce (Pat) Barnes of DeWitt, Roberta (Gilbert) Lewis of Cedar Rapids, Camilla (James) Lancaster of DeWitt, Lisa (Doyle) Fox of DeWitt; 46 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Frances Burke of DeWitt, Sister Ida Green, OSF of Chicago, Illinois, and a sister-in-law, Arlene Green of Grand Mound. 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Grimm, three sons-in-law, William Anderson, Bernard Sundeen, and Dale Holst, her parents, and siblings, Leo Green, Joseph Green, Harold Green, Howard Green, and Frank Green.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at SS Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound.  Funeral Mass will be held at SS Philip and James Catholic Church in Grand Mound on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.  Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Grand Mound, Iowa.
