Mrs. Velma A. Kuehl, 85, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Wednesday afternoon, August 3, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Mrs. Kuehl, the former Velma Alberta Menneke was born October 17, 1930, in Preston to Ralph and Lillian (Stoecken) Menneke.  She was a graduate of Welton High School and from cosmetology school in Davenport.  Velma married Norman Kuehl October 12, 1954, in Grand Mound.  The couple resided in California for several years, prior to moving to DeWitt where they raised their family.  She owned and operated Vel's Beauty Salon in DeWitt for 30 years until retirement in 1993.  Norm preceded her in death on September 12, 1992.

Velma was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt.  She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and bunco with friends, bowling and ceramics.

Surviving are children, Pam (John Russo) Kuehl of Hawaii; Jeff (Susan) Kuehl of Moline, Illinois, and Mark (Robin White) Kuehl of Lena, Illinois; grandchildren, Aaron and David Russo, Andrea and Rachel Kuehl and KayLee and Ian Kuehl; a great-granddaughter, Callie Wardell; a brother, Ronald Menneke of Florida; nieces and nephews.

Preceding Velma in death in addition to her husband were her parents and a sister, Murial Haase.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, August 6th.  A Service of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Ron Rafferty officiating.  Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
