Ruth Joan (Dunlavy) Hlubek

Ruth J. (Mrs. John V.) Hlubek, 82, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Friday morning, November 17, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Ruth was born August 14, 1935, in Iowa City, the youngest of eight children of the late Henry and Mary Pearl (Lohrey) Dunlavy of DeWitt. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School, DeWitt.  Ruth married John Hlubek June 21, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt.  From this union was born four children.  In addition to being a mother, Ruth was employed by Rock Island Arsenal and Iowa Mutual Insurance retiring in 1991.  In retirement she worked for Healthy Exchanges of DeWitt.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, the Altar and Rosary Society and church choir.  Ruth loved her family dearly and enjoyed time spent with them.  She also enjoyed attending theatre and musical productions, playing cards and her grandchildren’s activities.  Most of all Ruth’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, John; children, John A. (Richele) Hlubek of Epworth, Michael (Allison) Hlubek of Monroe, Wisconsin, W. Andrew (Jennifer) Hlubek of Marion and Lisa (Mike) Magistrelli of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Courtney (Casey) Hack, Justin Hlubek, Caitlyn (fiancé, Nick Tuttle) Hlubek and Joshua Hlubek, Abby Hlubek, Molly Hlubek and Lauren Hlubek, Owen Hlubek, Nicholas Hlubek and Lucas Hlubek and Paige Magistrelli, Brooke Magistrelli, Matthew Magistrelli and Grace Magistrelli; great-grandchildren, Kinley Hack, Kamden Hack and Kollyns Hack; a sister-in-law, Jane Dunlavy of Clinton; nieces and nephews.

Also preceding Ruth in death were brothers, Francis, Jerry, Jim and Joe and sisters, Margaret, Helen and Dorothy.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 20, 2017, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Courtney Hack, Justin Hlubek, Abby Hlubek, Molly Hlubek, Caitlyn Hlubek and Joshua Hlubek.  Honorary pallbearers will be Lauren Hlubek, Paige Magistrelli, Brooke Magistrelli, Matthew Magistrelli, Owen Hlubek, Nicholas Hlubek, Grace Magistrelli and Lucas Hlubek.
