Philip Walter Holmes
April 22, 1935 ~ June 30, 2016 (age 81) 81 Years OldPhilip Walter Holmes, 81, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Thursday morning, June 30, 2016, at Westwing Place in DeWitt.
Phil was born April 22, 1935, to Ezra and Linda (Florence) Holmes in DeWitt. After graduating from high school, Phil served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Phil was united in marriage to Joyce Nehlsen on October 13, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound. He worked at ALCOA in the store room until retiring in 1998. After retirement he drove for Krieger’s for several years.
Phil enjoyed working with his 1914 Model T, spending time with his grandson and great-grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews, who affectionately referred to him as “Uncle Pip.”
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce; a daughter, Brenda Olson of Welton; a grandson, Rick Olson of Calamus; great-grandchildren, Chesney and Dane; a brother, Jack; a sister-in-law Jeanette; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Charles, Ezra, Jim, Lois, and twin sister, Phyllis.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 8th, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
