Opal Nona (Schneider) Fox

Mrs. Opal N. Fox, 81, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Wednesday morning, January 10, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Opal Nona Schneider was born October 17, 1936, in Wheatland to the late Theodore and Louise (Strackbein) Schneider.  She was a 1954 graduate of Wheatland High School and attended business school in Davenport.  Opal married Virtus Fox May 26, 1957, in Wheatland.  They resided in DeWitt much of their married life where they raised their family of four children.  In addition to being a homemaker, Opal was a floral designer for Selks Flowers and Gifts for twenty years, until retirement in 1994.  Virtus preceded Opal in death February 17, 2005.

She was a longtime member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt where she was financial secretary and custodian along with her husband, Virtus for many years.  Opal was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards.  She loved following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.  Opal was a great fan of the Central DeWitt Sabers wrestling team and received the Past, Present and Future Award for her support. 

Surviving are children, Brenda (Mark) Ohnemus, Kevin (Deb) Fox, Doyle (Lisa) Fox and Marcia Finley all of DeWitt; grandchildren, Matt (Heather) Ohnemus, Zachary (Amy) Fox, Tyler (Charley) Ohnemus, Jeff Ohnemus, James (fiancée, Hayley Verboon) Finley, Dustin Fox, Joshua (Morgan) Fox, Creighton Fox, Derek Fox, Hope Finley, Kyle Fox, Katie Fox and Theodore Fox; great-grandchildren, Makenna, Tenley and Gable Ohnemus, Eloise and Brooks Ohnemus and Delilah Fox; sisters-in-law, Gloria Fox, Marlene Fox and Barbara VanDen Berghe; nieces and nephews.

Also preceding Opal in death were a brother, Earl and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The family will receive friends at First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2018.  A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018, in the church with Pastor Ann Molsberry officiating.  Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.   Pallbearers will be grandsons, Matt, Zachary, Tyler, Jeff, James and Dustin.  Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, Joshua, Creighton, Derek, Hope, Kyle, Katie and Theodore.
