Mary Katherine Harrington, 60, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, July 20, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly officiating.

Mary was born August 8, 1954, in New Hampton, Iowa, to AC and Janice (Kelley) Stolz.  She graduated from New Hampton High School in 1972.  Mary was united in marriage to Roger Harrington on August 30, 1975, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton.  The couple resided in New Hampton where Mary worked at Security State Bank for 20 years.  They relocated to DeWitt in 1990 where Mary recently retired from JC Penney in Davenport after 20 years of service.

Mary lived a very active life and explored many passions and interests including golf, running, reading, traveling, playing cards with her gals, spoiling her grandkids rotten and making the “occasional” late night QVC purchase.  She bravely battled cancer for 2 years before passing peacefully surrounded by her family.  Mary’s sharp wit and humor were with her until the end…and she was ALWAYS in charge!

In addition to her husband, the love of her life and best friend of 40 years, Roger, Mary is survived by her children, Joshua (Emily) Harrington of Davenport,  Iowa, Jordan Harrington of DeWitt and Victoria (Dustin) Dvorak of Parker, Colorado; grandchildren, Marley and Hadley Harrington of Davenport and Riley Dvorak of Parker; brothers, Dennis of Ionia, Iowa and David of Nashua, Iowa; sisters Leona of Des Moines, Iowa, and Lora Jo of Waterloo, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Laura Stolz.

The family would like to thank all of their family and friends for their kind words and support.  They would also like to thank Father Connolly for his service to the family.  They wish to thank all of the Doctors, nurses and staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Genesis Health Care of Davenport and Heartland Hospice of Davenport for all their time and effort in their care of Mary.

The family would like to pass on a special thank you to the nurses and staff at The Clarissa Cook Hospice House whose care and guidance was extraordinary.
