Mrs. Lucille Schnepel, 98, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Tuesday afternoon, April 5, 2016, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Mrs. Schnepel, the former Ruth Lucille Dohse was born June 9, 1917, at Maquoketa to William and Mathilda (Stahl) Dohse.  She attended country grade school and high school in Maquoketa.  Lucille married Henry J. “Hank” Schnepel, Jr., July 17, 1938, in Clinton.  They farmed at rural McCausland and Low Moor until 1979 when they retired and moved to Maquoketa.  Her husband, Hank preceded Lucille in death February 9, 1996. 

She was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church of Maquoketa.  Lucille enjoyed crocheting and quilting-making many, many quilts for her family, extended family and others.

Surviving are children, Janice Collins Bendixen and her husband, Romaine “Ben” of Coralville, Dorothy Winchip of Washington, Ruth Ann Smith and her husband, Larry of Waukee and Marvin Schnepel and his wife, Alice of DeWitt; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding Lucille in death in addition to her husband were a son, William in 1958; her parents; sons-in-law, Gene Collins and Merton “Butch” Winchip; a great-grandchild, a step-grandchild and her sister Erma Glover.

The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m. Friday, April 8th.  A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, in the funeral home with the Rev. Judy Heinrich officiating.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. 

Pallbearers will be Steve Collins, Mark Collins, Marty Collins, Jason Smith, Jeff Smith and Scott Myers.
