Loretta Ann (Mrs. Richard) Callender, 90 of DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Naperville, Illinois, died late Friday evening, September 29, 2017, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Callender, the former Loretta Meisinger was born December 3, 1926, in Naperville to the late Walter and Cecelia (Jungles) Meisinger.  She was a graduate of Naperville Schools and received a degree in education from North Central College, Naperville.  Early in her life, Loretta taught school in the area.  She married Richard Callender September 20, 1947, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Naperville.  Loretta was a homemaker, raising their four sons.  The couple also farmed at Newark, Illinois.  

She was a lifelong member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Naperville.  Loretta enjoyed collecting dolls, gardening, flowers and farming alongside her husband.

Surviving are her loving husband of 70 years, Richard; sons, Kevin (Julie) Callender of Laramie, Wyoming, Paul (Rochelle) Callender of Charlotte, Iowa, and Keith (Lydia) Callender of Lowden, Iowa; grandchildren, Kim Callender, Brian (Julie) Callender, Debbie (George) Sokolov, Cody Callender, Travis (Katherine) Callender, Amanda (Lee) Jacobsen, Leanne (Marshall) Nicolay, Kyle Callender, Samantha Callender, Tessa Callender and Jacob Callender; great-grandchildren, Henry Callender, Karina Sokolov, Aleena Nicolay, Kinley Nicolay, Ryleigh Nicolay, Aurora Callender and Baby Jacobsen due in January of 2018; siblings, Irene Bastiaans, Rosemary (Nick) Moore, Kenneth (Kathleen) Meisinger and Donald (Elaine) Meisinger; nieces and nephews.

Loretta was also preceded in death by her son, Craig and a brother, Earl Meisinger.

Visitation will be at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Naperville from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2017.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the church with the Rev. Fr. Timothy Sauppé officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
