Lois R. (Mrs. Grover) Meier, 96, of Calamus, Iowa, died Friday morning, September 4, 2015, at Geneis Medical Center, DeWitt, Iowa.
Mrs. Meier, the former Lois Ruth Holstein was born February 13, 1919, at Calamus to William and Dorthea (Mueller) Holstein. She was a graduate of Calamus High School. On November 26, 1938, Lois was united in marriage to Grover Meier at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound, in a double ceremony with Lois’ brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry and Luella Burzlaff. The couple raised their family and farmed at rural Calamus for 40 years until retiring to the City of Calamus in 1978. Grover preceded Lois in death in on February 24, 2009.
She was a member of the Christian Free Lutheran Church in Wheatland. Lois enjoyed playing cards and belonged to several card clubs over the years. She was a wonderful cook and loved caring for her family.
Surviving are children and their spouses, Dale and Karolyn Meier and Jeannine and Gary Eden of DeWitt; 6 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lucille Petersen of Calamus; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Lois was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lorraine Christensen.
The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 6th and from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Monday, September 7th, at Christian Free Lutheran Church, Wheatland. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, in the Church, with Pastor Eric Swenson officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus.
Pallbearers will be Parker Meier, Luke Weirup, Cody Bosacker, Isaac Meier, Dylan Petersen and Zachary Eden.
