Kenneth Ellsworth Mickey, 93, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Kenny was born October 29, 1922, to Adolphus and Mable (Levsen) Mickey in Wapello. He attended school in Welton and served in the US Navy during WWII. Kenny then worked on various farms until he was united in marriage to Madeline Ohlerich on November 16, 1946, in Clinton. Kenny was employed at Clinton Engines and then at Caterpiller until retirement. Madeline preceded him in death on June 12, 2013.

Kenny was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bliedorn, where he served as head deacon for many years and cared for the grounds. He also served as president of the Caterpiller Retirees, a member of the Welton City Council, Crime Stoppers, a 50 year member of the Welton Volunteer Fire Department, and a lifetime member of the Eugene McManus American Legion, DeWitt. He enjoyed working outside, going to auctions, and polka music.

Surviving are children, Sherry (Don) Haack of Calamus, Iowa, Ken, Jr. (Sharon) Mickey of DeWitt, Rita Cochran of Davenport, Iowa, Jean (J.C.) Martensen of Welton, and Jim Mickey of Welton; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Sue Mickey and Deborah Kay Berner; a brother, Jack Niles, and sister, Stella Story.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bliedorn. Vicar Matt Seegert will officiate with burial and military rites at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeff Haack, Mark Haack, Greg Haack, Chris Mickey, Andrew Grandinetti, Jon Martensen, Kaeden Mickey. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert and Lauren Story.
