Mrs. Jeanette E. Betts, 93, of DeWitt, made her journey to heaven, Sunday morning January 24, 2016 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Mrs. Betts, the former Jeanette Edith Freeman was born September 2, 1922, at rural Low Moor to Arthur and Edith (Jensen) Freeman.  She was a 1939 graduate of DeWitt High School.  On August 23, 1940, Jeanette was united in marriage to Glenn Betts in Clinton.  The couple farmed first north of Calamus and later west of DeWitt.  Jeanette was also employed at Central Community Schools and McDonald Office Supply.  Her husband preceded her in death on July 1, 1980.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bliedorn and currently the United Methodist Church of DeWitt. Jeanette’s greatest joys in life were time spent with her family, her church and life living on the farm.  Her hobbies included scrapbooking, journaling, family history and gardening.

Surviving are daughters, Marilyn McDonald of Clinton, Joyce Johansen of Davenport, and Debra Blackwell of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Christine (Kevin) Alexander, Robert (Denise) McDonald, Mark (Lori) Johansen and Sherry (Greg Mayberry) Johansen; great-grandchildren, Mickel Johansen, Matthew (Kristin) Mayberry, Casandra Johansen, Kate Alexander, Kelly Alexander, Jacob McDonald and Mallory McDonald; a dear cousin, Merlyn “Buck” Schau and a dear friend, Carla Behrend.

Preceding Jeanette in death in addition to her husband were her parents.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27th.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 28th at the United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tom Boomershine officiating.  Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Jeanette’s family would like to extend their most sincere appreciation and thanks for the love, kindness and care given by the pastor and church family of the United Methodist Church of DeWitt.
