Gertrude Elizabeth (Walker) Meyer

Gertrude E. (Mrs. Harlan) Meyer, 89, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Friday afternoon, December 30, 2016.

The former Gertrude Elizabeth Walker was born, December 18, 1927, on the Walker family farm east of DeWitt to William J. and Anna (Springer) Walker.  She was a1946 graduate of DeWitt High School.  On January 15, 1955, she married Harlan K. Meyer of Scott County, Iowa, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt.  The couple farmed for 46 years and raised their family in Scott and Clinton Counties.

She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt where she was a Sunday School Teacher and led Bible Studies.  Gert was well known for being and excellent seamstress and hand stitched quilter.  

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Harlan; children, Ross Allyn of DeWitt, Sue Ann of Norman Oklahoma, and Jodi Lynn of DeWitt; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marlene Walker of DeWitt.

Gert was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017.  A private family service and burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.  A quilter's memorial fund has been established.
