George A. Quigley, 80, of DeWitt, Iowa died Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Manor Care in Davenport.

Mr. George Alan Quigley was born August 16, 1936, to Nelson and Evelyn (Kallenbach) Quigley. He was born and raised in DeWitt. As a child he spent many hours listening to music and spending time at the family cottage at Springbrook Country Club. Growing up the family went on many back country horse trips in the west. Many times he recalled his two encounters with grizzly bears; once while sleeping open-air and the sleeping bag zipper got stuck, and another time while working summers at Yellowstone National Park during college. He was most proud of his law degree from University of Colorado at Boulder. He spent happy years there with his college friends and fraternity brothers working hard, leading the glee club, and visiting the mountains. Upon graduation he moved to California to practice law and get married. Illness then changed his adventurous course and he returned to Iowa, where he briefly remarried and had a daughter. The highlight of his last few years was an annual reunion in Colorado with friends at a mountain cabin and watching sports, especially the Cubs and Notre Dame. He was always known by those who knew him best as wonderfully intelligent and witty.

He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Bradley of Iowa City and his granddaughters Violet and Adeline.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a favorite aunt, Frances Schiller.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt.  A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly will officiate. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
