Florence Lavonne (Grau) Petersen

Mrs. Florence L. Petersen, 97, of Calamus, Iowa, passed away early Saturday morning, January 14, 2017, at Westwing Place, DeWitt surrounded by her family.

Florence was born November 21, 1919, on her parent's farm south of Calamus, to  Fred and Minnie (Mueller) Grau.  She was the youngest of three girls.  Florence attended the country stone school house through the 8th grade and graduated as valedictorian from Calamus High School in 1937.  She was married to Don Miller.  Later she married Lowell Petersen on June 19, 1946.  Most of her life, Florence worked with Lowell in his chiropractic office.   In later years she worked at the bank in Calamus.  Lowell preceded Florence in death in September of 1978.

She was a longtime member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Calamus.  Florence enjoyed playing cards, bowling, dancing, traveling, bingo and most of all, spending time with her family.

Those left to honor her memory include children, Sharon (Art) Bousselot of Calamus, Claire (Lana) Petersen of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Cindy (Dan) Schulte of Sperry; a daughter-in-law, Rosie Miller Bennett of Marion; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Florence was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert Miller and sisters, Alice Olson and Evelyn Haack.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017.  A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Calamus with the Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow at Kvindherred Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Pallbearers will be Michael Miller, Brian Bousselot, Darin Bousselot, Jason Bousselot, Aaron Petersen, Adam Petersen, Derek Schulte and Justin Schulte.
