Douglas Eugene Lass

Douglas Eugene Lass, 66, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Saturday morning, February 25, 2017, at home.

He was born April 13, 1950, in Clinton to Eugene and Ruth Ann (Wells) Lass.  Doug was a graduate of DeWitt High School and received an associate degree from Clinton Community College.  He resided most of his life in the DeWitt area and worked for Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, DeWitt for over 30 years until retirement.  In retirement, Doug worked as an overnight stock-man at Walmart in Clinton. 

He was a member of Long Grove Christian Church.  Doug enjoyed leather work, gardening and visiting his friends at MJ's.

Surviving are a daughter, Michelle Turner of Iowa City; grandchildren, Marcus, Heather and Jason; his mother, Ruth Ann Van Meter of DeWitt; brothers, Dean Lass of Ridgecrest, California, Richard (Kathy) Lass of Davenport and Jim (Linda) Lass of DeWitt; a niece, Chelsey and nephews, Garrett, Keegan and Ryan; his aunt, Joan Lass of DeWitt.

Preceding Doug in death was his father, Eugene Lass, his step-father, Carvel Van Meter, his grandparents and aunts and uncles.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017.  A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with burial at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.  Memorials are suggested to Long Grove Christian Church or DeWitt Referral Center.

Pallbearers will be Garrett Lass, Keegan Lass, Marcus Turner, Art Barber, Rick Waack and Al Roseland.
