Donald William Hahn “Donnie Bill” was born on November 25, 1939 to Harry and Ursula (Kaeferstein) Hahn. Don, Harry and Ursula’s youngest son, grew up on the family farm in rural Grand Mound with 11 brothers and sisters, older siblings, Dolores, Mary “Margaret”, Clarice, James “Jim”, Vincent “Vince”, Monica, George, Bernadette “Bernie”, Rita and younger siblings, Madonna “Donna” and Dorothy “Dot”. 

Donnie Bill attended St. Ann’s Elementary School in Grand Mound and in 1957 graduated from Saint Joseph’s High School in neighboring DeWitt. He met Bonnie Ryner in 1959 and the couple married on June 11, 1960. In February of that same year, Don enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) and remained until honorably discharged after 22 ½ years. In retirement, Don served as a travel agent in California, locally on Brady Street in Davenport, IA, and later worked in Finance for the Rhythm City and Isle of Capri casinos. Mr. Hahn passed away in the strong presence of family and friends on Monday, October 10.

In addition to his devoted wife of 56 years, those left to honor his memory are 2 children, Daniel Hahn of Sacramento, CA, Deanna (Jim) Mackensen of Yuba City, CA, and the Mackensen’s  4 children, Alexander, Cassandra, Nicole and Kristina; Mary (Margaret) Harksen (sister) of Camanche, IA, George (Joan) Hahn (brother) of Vinton, IA, Mary Ann Hahn (sister-in-law) of Grand Mound, IA, Monica Green (sister) of DeWitt, IA and formerly of Grand Mound, IA, George (Margaret) Claeys (brother-in-law) of Eldridge, IA, Bernadette Wisor (sister) of Camanche, IA , Madonna (William) Glasz (sister) of Henderson, NV and Low Moor, IA, and Dorothy (John) Enright (sister) of Goosecreek, SC, Sister Mary Vincentia Kaeferstein, BVM (Aunt) of Mount Carmel, Dubuque, IA; Marlies (Warren) Gries (sister-in-law) of Long Grove, IA, Darrel Ryner (brother-in-law) of DeWitt, IA, Nancy Wiese (sister-in-law) of Davenport, IA, Duane McGinty (friend) of Clinton, IA, Rob, Lisa (niece), Brian and Reese Hilsenbeck of Long Grove, IA, Ken and Lisa (nephew) Gries of Kokomo, IN, neighbors, former co-workers, friends  and Don’s beloved Dalmatian, Angel’s Nest Remember Me (Huck).

Preceding him in death were his parents, Harry and Ursula Hahn, and grandparents, William and Bernadine Kaeferstein; siblings, Sister Mary Dolores Hahn, BVM, James Hahn, Vincent and Regina (sister-in-law) Hahn, Rita Claeys, Clarice and Charles (brother-in-law) Goodall, Howard Green (brother-in-law), Joseph (brother-in-law) Wisor; beloved canine companions Bree, Chase, Spice and Tanker.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016.  A Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly presiding.  A Celebration of Life Social will follow.  Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound.
