Catherine Ann (Phipps) Winchester

Catherine "Cathy" Ann Winchester, 62, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Sunday morning, September 3, 2017, in her home as the result of a fall.

Cathy was born to Donald and Leona "Maxine" (Schaumleffle) Phipps in Galesburg, Illinois, where she was raised.   She was Postmaster in Rock Island, Illinois, and Davenport, New Liberty and Donahue, Iowa. Cathy was married to Bill Winchester who preceded her in death two days prior. 

Cathy and Bill loved to travel.  They went to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and many other locations.  She also was very involved with her grandson Jonas’ Cub Scout Pack.

Surviving Cathy are her sons, Nate Lester and his wife, Erin and Patrick Lester, his wife, Jessica and their son, Jonas; her mother, Maxine; her brother, Don Phipps and wife Christy, her twin sister, Carole Phipps and her sister, Lisa Johnson and her husband, Jim.  She also has eight nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Bill, Cathy was preceded in death by her father in 2007.

The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 2:00 until 3:45 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017.  A service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with The Rev. Jealaine Marple officiating.  A Celebration of Life will follow from 6:00 until 10:00 p.m. at The Filling Station, 305 East 35th Street, Davenport.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland.
