Andrew Meryl Ericksen, 13, of DeWitt, passed away, Sunday afternoon, June 12, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born October 12, 2002, in Davenport to Grant and Annette (Green) Ericksen.  Andrew was looking forward to his eighth grade year at St. Joseph Catholic School, DeWitt.

Andrew was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was a good student, true friend, team player, and faith-filled leader. He was also sensitive, easy going, and had a great sense of humor. Andrew was known for his contagious smile and caring nature. He loved spending time outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and boating.  Andrew also greatly enjoyed his time spent on the basketball court and soccer field with his friends and team mates.

Surviving are his parents, Grant and Annette;  a brother, Noah; grandparents, Roger and Nancy Ericksen of Sioux City and Theresa and Kivian Eschbach of Grand Mound; aunts and uncles, Brett and Karla Ericksen of LeMars, Trent and Bryna Ericksen of Kansas City, Missouri, Kyle Ericksen of Sioux City, Angela and Scott Henningsen of Grand Mound, Amy and Johann Pierce and Alyssa and Heath Schroeder of DeWitt and Andrea and Nathan Manderscheid of Bettendorf; cousins, Elizabeth Ericksen, Maegan and Katie Ericksen, Sam and Ana Henningsen, Ethan, Grace and Isabelle Pierce, Elaina, Landon and Quinn Schroeder and Elyn and Bryn Manderscheid; his loving Labrador, Dot and a whole host of friends.

Preceding Andrew in death were his grandpa, Meryl "Cubby" Green and a cousin, Lucas Henningsen.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, with the vigil service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church with the Rev. Paul Connolly officiating.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established at First Central State Bank, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Kaiden Muhl, Dylan McAleer, Sean Kinney, Sean McNamara, Jack Wilken, Alex Tuttle, Ben Mason and Marcus Kaczinski.  Honorary pallbearers will be Brady Cavanagh and Hunter Manatt.
