Alan H. Kruse, 65, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Tuesday evening, August 8, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.

He was born July 2, 1952, in DeWitt to the late Harold and Betty (Petersen) Kruse.  Alan grew up on the farm one mile east of DeWitt where his grandparents and parents had lived.  His family was the third generation to reside there.  Alan was a 1970 graduate of Central Community Schools, DeWitt and received an associate degree from Clinton Community College in 1972.  He married Janice Marie Hollinrake May 30, 1981, in Weller. 

Alan was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt.  His interests were breeding and showing cattle, team roping and building up the family farm operation.  Alan was deeply devoted to his family and will be missed by many.  His hobby was to work and to work was his hobby. 

Surviving are sons, Todd (Mallory) Kruse and Chad (Jenna McConohy) Kruse; grandsons, Keaton Kruse and Caleb Kruse; a brother, Bill (Susan) Kruse of DeWitt; sisters, Marilyn (Bob) Mundt of DeWitt, Nancy (Larry) Spain of Charlotte, Janet (Jim) Ham of Osage and Jolene Kruse of Bettendorf; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Julie (Ernie) Shaw, Mike Hollinrake, Mark (Sharon) Hollinrake, Donny Hollinrake and Denny (Janet) Hollinrake; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his wife, Janice on August 6, 2003.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2017.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt with Rev. Ron Rafferty officiating.  Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
