Althea (Mrs. Ray) Denahy, 88, of Grand Mound, Iowa, died Wednesday afternoon, February 13, 2013 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2013, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2013 (Ray's birthday) at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. The Reverend Father Bill Kneemiller and The Reverend Father Paul Connolly will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound.

Pallbearers will be Dylan Hintz, Jonathan Gregoire, Todd Westphal, Kurt Denahy, Ryan "Kip" Denahy and Bill Dolan.

Mrs. Denahy, the former Althea Mary Ryan was born May 23, 1924, in Grand Mound, Iowa, to William and Stella (Kuehn) Ryan. Althea was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School of DeWitt. On September 23, 1944, Althea was united in marriage to Raymond Fredrick Denahy at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The couple farmed at rural Grand Mound and Althea also was employed by M. B. Peters and Son Insurance for many years. Her husband, Ray preceded her in death on July 2, 2005.

She was a longtime member of Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound and the Altar and Rosary Society. Althea's family was her life. She loved following her grandchildren and great-grandhildren's activities and was also an avid card player.

Surviving are her children, Mary Kae (Steve Bierman) Hintz and Denise (Chuck) Gregoire of DeWitt, Bob (JoAnn) Denahy of Wheatland, Iowa, and Gayle Dolan of DeWitt; grandchildren, Julie Hintz, Jennifer (Todd) Westphal, Jill (Tom) McNamara, Dave Palmer, Jon Gregoire, Gina (Sean) Helton, Charley (Tyler) Ohnemus, Candi (Jerald) Hawkins, Kelly (Kent) Balog, Colleen (Eric) Pratt, JR (Amy) Gregoire, Kasey (John) Kleinsmith, Grant (Christina) Gregoire, Kim (Lee Swanson) Banowetz, Kari (Joe Hefel) Denahy, Kurt (Tracey) Denahy, Ryan (Pam) Denahy, Dennis (Teresa) O'Neill, Tara (Kenny) Nadler, Tiffany (Chadd) Knisley, Chad O'Neill, Brynna Dolan, Lauren Dolan, Maggie Dolan and Bill Dolan; 50 great-grandchildren; a sister, Madonna Torpey of Debary, Florida; brothers, Wilfred (Jo Ann) Ryan of Hemet, California, and Ken (Robin) Ryan of Studio City, California; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Althea was preceded in death by grandchildren, Jana Palmer and Chad Hintz; a great-grandson, Riley Westphal; a son-in-law, Kevin Dolan; her parents; a brother, Bill Ryan and sisters, Jeanne Hansen and Janet Ryan.
