Dorothy Maude Cue

Mrs. Dorothy M. Cue, 96, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Thursday afternoon, July 5, 2012, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa.

Dorothy Maude Doland was born December 3, 1915, near Fayette, Iowa, to John and Essie (Nefzger) Doland. She graduated from Fayette High School with the Class of 1934. Dorothy was employed by the Fayette County Mutual Telephone Company during high school and after her marriage for many years. On July 31, 1937, Dorothy was united in marriage to Harley Cue in Mason City, Iowa. To this union two daughters, Harleyn and Kathleyn were born. Her husband, Harley. preceded her in death on December 30, 1984. In 1988, Dorothy moved to DeWitt, to be closer to her daughters.

Dorothy loved to read, write poetry, garden and decorate her home.

Surviving are her daughters, Harleyn Vermazen of DeWitt, and Kathleyn (John) Manson of Maquoketa, Iowa; grandchildren, Tony Vermazen of DeWitt, Eve (Matt) Otting of Maquoketa, Erin (Brandon) Kirchhoff of North Liberty, Iowa, Eric (Rachel) Manson of Iowa City; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Caroline and Cate Otting.

Preceding Dorothy in death in addition to her husband, were a granddaughter, Heidi Vermazen Claussen; a son-in-law, Stephen Vermazen; her parents; sisters, Vivian Richards and Vera Wilke and a brother, Paul Doland.

Per Dorothy's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette. Burial will follow.
