Ethel was born in Calamus, Iowa, to Mike and Clara Thiel. On July 4, 1943, she married Kenneth H. "Mac" McDonald in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. In 1948 they left Iowa and moved to Washington State for the next 49 years. In 1997 they relocated to Pleasanton.
Ethel worked as a dental assistant for many years, as well as serving as office manager for their family automobile dealership. She was involved in many service organizations and was a former president and life-member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. In addition to love of her family, Ethel’s greatest enjoyment came from arts and crafts, specializing in decorative egg art, and writing cards and letters.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years and a sister, Gladys (Mrs. Vincent "Babe") Sheridan.
She is survived by her son, Ken McDonald and his wife, Barbara; grandsons, Ken (Shari) McDonald and Jeff (Keri) McDonald; five great-grandchildren, Allison, Kelsey, Davis, Sean and Cameron; a sister, Lois London and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, Iowa, on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m with a vigil service at 6:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 417 6th Avenue, DeWitt, on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
Pallbearers will be Ken McDonald, Jeff McDonald, Dennis Sheridan, David Sheridan, Brian London and Ron Bundy.
