Alice J. (Mrs. Francis) Martin, 77, of DeWitt, died Thursday morning, May 3, 2012, in her home.

Mrs. Martin was born Alice Jean Carber, July 19, 1934 in Iowa City, Iowa. Her parents were George and Lillian (Wynkoop) Carber. She attended DeWitt Schools. On November 7, 1953, Alice was united in marriage to Francis T. "Smoke" Martin at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The couple resided in DeWitt, where they raised their family. Alice was employed by the DeWitt Community Hospital for over 35 years as a nurse’s aid until retirement. Her husband preceded her in death in 1992.

Alice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed fishing, reading, camping, counted cross stitch, playing cards, playing games on the computer, and times spent with her family.

Surviving are her children, Deborah Martin of DeWitt, Linda Martin of Oak Park, Illinois, and Joseph (Sharon) Martin of DeWitt; grandchildren, Patrick (Jeni) Martin, Jason Martin, Jared (Neko) Martin, Taylor Pressley, Marissa (fiancé, Cody) Martin, and Rebecca Martin; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Kimberly; a sister, Joyce Dohrmann and sisters-in-law, Alice Carber and Peggy Carber, all of DeWitt; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by a son, Jim, her parents and siblings.The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 in the Funeral Home. Deacon Mike Sheil will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Mike McCarville, Patrick Martin, Cody Snodgrass, Denny O'Neil, Jack Carber, Gene Carber, and Bus Seastrand.
